Briar Rose Quilt

The Briar Rose Quilt is finally finished! Completed it last week and have finally taken a few pictures. So here it is! This Briar Rose line by Heather Ross for Windham Fabrics is just gorgeous (it comes out later this month and yes I will be carrying it in the fabric shop)

I kept it simple by cutting the charm squares down and putting white kona inbetween the rows.

I backed it with charcoal minky (didn't want to make it overly girly with pink and gray felt like a nice solid base) and then I quilted around the blocks.

Briar Rose Quilt - In Progress

Finally, finally got around to cutting and making a quilt top with the briar rose fabric that Windham Fabrics sent me. (if you follow on instagram @sirbubbadoo, you've seen the progess, sorry for being so slow to update the blog). Because some of the squares weren't a full 5", they were chopped short I opted to go with a layout that could accommodate these shortened squares. I also added in some KONA colors to make it brighter.

Now I am auditioning backing options, probably going to go with minky...which means I have to wash this puppy. Should I serge the edges? to keep it more together? I've washed others and they do okay but thinking that maybe it would be even better by serging them first. Hmmm.

These strawberries (comes in 4 colorways) still remain my favorite

cannot wait until the full yardage gets here, hopefully soon!

Bordered Pearl Bracelet and Minky Quilt

I actually made this a while back and just realized that I hadn't posted about it :) This quilt is made with Pearl Bracelet in Bright Star (white on white) with Coal Kona border around the edge. (really loving the pearl bracelets but it is hard to find a reason to use them on The Bubb)

Because Tiffany Blue Minky was to be used on the back a layer of cotton batting was used to prevent the bright minky color from distracting/showing through on the white pearl bracelet top. As well as make it a little bit thicker.

I quilted it with three large circles to mirror the bracelets and then quilted along the border seams on each side.

I believe the finish size was 35x45 so a good all purpose baby blanket size. I hope that the new mom and baby love it too!

Bridesmaid Dress Baby Blanket #3

Okay so maybe it is becoming 'a thing' as I got asked to make another baby blanket from a bridesmaid dress and sash. So excited about this one! The black bridesmaid dress and pink sash just lent itself perfectly to the white and black damask pattern by Riley Blake and fuchsia bubble dot minky by Shannon Fabrics.

It was so much fun pairing up the rest of the coordinating prints. I've never imagined myself as a pink, black and white girl for baby gear but I am seriously crushing on this blanket palette.

Making the blanket from the dress is pretty simple: Cut dress apart to get the maximum skirt area and then cut everything into squares. Working with the rayon/nylon/silk combo is a little more tricky but totally doable. And then just make as a normal patchwork.

The finish size is about 30x35 as I do 5 inch squares to keep everything simple in my head. The fuschia minky matched the pink sash perfectly but I really love how the pearl bracelet fabric isn't as bright but still looks so wonderful!

Bridesmaid Dress Baby Blanket

A little while ago I got asked to make a baby blanket with pieces of a bridesmaid dress incorporated into it. After a discussing fabrics it was decided to use these pieces

minus the citron dumb dot in a simple square patchwork blanket. The pale lime green dress worked well with the zoology color palette and would still be bold and bright for the baby boy. Starting with the dress I got to work

and then the patchwork blanket quickly unfolded itself. Its been so long since I've had time (or a chance to actually do a patchwork) that I realized how much I love putting colors together and working on these blankets.

White minky was used on the back, I think that black made it too dark, and white is pure and simple looking and finished it off nicely.

Hope the mom and baby love it too! (and here is the other bridesmaid dress blanket that I've done now, is this becoming a thing?!)

Camp Sur Patchwork Cheater Quilt

From far away this patchwork quilt might look like I put all these squares together, but I didn't :) It is a cheater patch, called Camp Sur Patch by Birch Fabrics. (this fabric sold out super quick and its not surprising as it is super cute!)

Anyway. I got asked to make a baby quilt with this particular fabric.

We decided that organic cotton sherpa by Michael Miller would be best for the back, batting was requested and then of course it needed quilting to keep everything in place. Really liking how I did the quilting on this quilt, it was decided to do the same on this one, making it seem even more like a patchwork.

I am seriously in love with this quilt and really really really didn't want to send it away :( I love the weight of the sherpa with batting inside, definitely what The Bubb is going to get for his new big boy bed (whenever we get around to getting that but of course, like always, we have a problem. The bed we were going to get is no longer being made. Sigh. All other beds in the universe, I of course don't like and will never live up to the bed I originally wanted. Plan B is toddler bed, as I found one that I LOVE but we weren't going to do a toddler bed for various reasons but are now thinking that maybe we'll just do that instead. Anyway.)

So excited for the new little one to get his quilt! Happy Friday everyone :)

Glimma Quilt

So happy to share with you the Glimma Quilt that is finally finished. Love love love this new line of fabric coming out in April, so excited!! Anyway after receiving the sample pack I knew exactly what this fabric was going to be used for, and I am sorta weird about not believing that it is going to be a girl or a boy until they are born (despite what they tell you and what you see), and so I waited until my friend had her super adorable baby girl and then dived into the fabric.

I decided to just keep the squares whole, as I wanted to see the patterns and not cut them up. And to show them off I paired it with KONA Ash. I like simple baby quilts so rows of patchwork divided up seemed like a good plan to show off the different patterns.

Then on the back I used my fav, organic cotton sherpa. And then quilted (top-stitched, whatever) along the outside of the rows, as I didn't want to impede the patterns.

Thee Bubb was pretty helpful too, mixing up the squares and of course taking pictures!

Hope everyone is having a good week! It is raining here :( but luckily all the new windows got installed just as it started. Phew!
