Sick Day

A cold has been going around our house last week :( Evan generously brought it home from work (not that I am placing blame anywhere) but we have agreed that I would get better a lot faster if I would sit in front of the tv and relax instead of working all the time. Sigh. He is right.

Unfortunately The Bubbers also got it :( Which is a first for him as he hasn't been sick before. He is pretty much his usual self, but much more snuggly. And has a ton of boogers. Very gross. He doesn't seem to mind so much although walking quickly or after he gets to the top of the stairs he is sort wheezing from not being able to breathe.

The worst seems to have passed (last Thursday) but I thought I would share our sick day with you. We decided to stay in our pajamas all day (wish I could say that is different than a normal day for me!) and do low key activity things. I asked him what he wanted to do and he went into our bathroom and brought out some nail polish. I haven't painted my nails in front of him before and he really didn't understand what he was getting himself into - as he mostly just likes to look at the bottles of different colors - so of course he brings out black, and yeah not really in a black mood right now so I got him to compromise with me on gray. And yup I painted his nails.

He was totally into it! Held really still and was extremely curious, and waited for them to dry too! What a good boy. Then he watched while I quickly did mine. I only did one of his hands, as I figured that was good enough. Silly boy! But every time he picks up something with his painted hand he kinda looks all bad-ass, but the monkey jams aren't helping that one :)

Then we did some stickering. Wasn't into coloring just the stickers, which is fine.

And then we polished off some oranges as dessert for lunch.

But Evan and Emmett are all better now so that is good news!

Clementine

First off I just need to say that I LOVE New Zealand. It is so unbelievably beautiful there, plus the people are so friendly and welcoming. Everyone should go there to visit! Anyway before you think that this is going to turn into a travel post... A friend of mine who lives there recently had a baby and I thought that it would be nice to send them something. I actually bought this fabric for her before she got married or was just about to get married, can't remember anymore, but when I saw it, I thought 'Miriam' and couldn't not get it - you know how that happens sometimes?! As fate would have they did have a baby and it is a beautiful little girl named Clementine. So I pulled out this fun and bright flannel fabric from my stash and made a blanket for her.

It is cotton flannel on the front and then the back is super soft cream bubble dot minky.

To make it more personal I appliqued Clementine onto the back.

Here is cutie patootie Clementine modeling the blanket :) Thanks again for sending me the photos!!

I love minky :)

KONA Solids Are Here

"oooooh" as The Bubb loves to say when we are opening up the boxes that come in the mail/UPS/FedEx. This is one of his favorite activities, checking out the loot. Then upon discovering it is yet more fabric, he smiles at me and then toddles off back to his firetruck. But I appreciate his initial reaction :)

Where is all this rambling headed you ask? Well I am excited to share that I am now stocking KONA fat quarter bundles in all the different color stories in my shop. This one is my favorite (purple of course! plus it is called Flying People Eater!)

And I am also carrying some neutral KONA colors in yardage. We don't have the space unfortunately for a ton of colors so I am starting with these and will hopefully be adding more as space allows for (as I am also trying to convince my husband, that yes in fact we do need 50 plus different Ta Dot colors from Michael Miller but more on that later). Here are the KONA basic colors:

Hope everyone is having a good week!

Organic Crib Sheets

So I realize that The Bubb already has four crib sheets (two from the store and two that I made) but now he has two more, which is kinda silly - as he doesn't really NEED any more, but when I saw the organic Bah Bah Black Sheep fabric from Monaluna, I could not resist! Especially since the fabric is extra wide which makes it perfect for making sheets. I also made one with organic cotton flannel, as it is kinda chilly here and nothing is better than flannel to snuggle up on. I couldn't find a pattern that I liked on flannel anywhere (and that would be wide enough after it shrinks during the wash, as we all know flannel does a ton) so I used some organic cotton flannel that I had on hand that is made extra wide so perfect again for sheets. It is wonderful oatmeal color, which actually works out really well since his blankets are so bright.

Love the sheep, it is just perfect for a crib sheet (well I think at least!)

And the flannel one:

And as always being helpful during picture taking :)

Plus, and I don't know if it had anything to do with it, but he slept his best/longest nap ever yesterday when he was on the flannel sheet since our transition to one nap a day. Hopefully that will continue today too!

Pink and Gray

Normally I am not one for the whole baby pink and gray combo. However when I got asked to make a girl version of this blanket in pink and gray it seemed that it was meant to be as Michael Miller makes the bikes in those colors and has coordinating dots, etc. Since they didn't have the bikes the alternate way I subsituted in a pretty damask print and I think it just gives it a girly enough feel.

Now that it is all done I am really loving the pink and gray together and can totally understand how some people love the combination as it looks so elegant against a white backing.

Off to finish some crib sheets, hope everyone had a good weekend!

16 Months Old

Trying to get a 16 month photo proved to be well a challenge this morning. He would not stop trying to grab the camera, then would laugh (above) or hide (below)

The biggest news is that The Bubb is walking as of the 1st! Here is a video of his maybe 7th try at walking (the first few we were so excited that well getting the camera wasn't so important) very early on the 1st.

By the afternoon he was pretty excited by walking, although I don't think he thinks of it as a mode of transportation yet, but thinks its funny/a game. He loves to walk between us, well run, back and forth. As I was recording it on my phone, he would dash to Evan then back to me and demand to see the video that I just made. Then he wanted to do it again and again and again. Silly boy. But it got him walking a lot that day.

Now a few days later he is getting more used to this being his mode of transport and is pretty stoked that it is easier for him to carry things. He still has difficulty just standing up on his own. He crawls to something near by, then pulls himself up and then walks from there. But if he needs to get somewhere quickly (like the sound of the garbage truck) he will crawl not walk.

What else is happening. Well as of this past weekend we have officially dropped the morning nap and I think that I am taking it worse than he is. Although at about 9:30-10 he goes into his room and starts to look at his books and then crawls into my lap for stories as this is when he would normally get his nap. So it is nice that we still have that.

Emmett is still vocal although the more that I anticipate his needs the less he talks as he doesn't have to ask but just look at me. So I am going to have to try not to give him what he wants right away which is frustrating to both of us so that he keeps trying to say things. So far he says, dadda, momma, emmett, babo, hi, bye, milk, down, up, come, doggie, birdie, and his first and by far favorite, all done. He'll imitate a lot of the other words we say but doesn't know them yet.

He is good at starting the dishwasher, vacuum and washer and is really good helper. He loves to pick up bits of string/papers off the floor (we are not that dirty I promise) and put them in our paper recycling box. He also loves to pull papers off our table and put them into the recycling box as well, so not so helpful but good intent. I am hoping that this helpfulness lasts. But probably once he realizes what he is doing he won't be interested anymore!

We love him so very much and he always continues to amaze us.

A Colorful 2012

Happy New Year!

I thought I would start off the new year with some color. I finally received the Bounty of Basics of Kona dark fat quarters (similar to this one) last week.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE them. And was so happy when they appeared on my doorstep, it felt like Christmas :)

I have a million things planned to do with them as my 'to do' list for 2012 is frighteningly long already (I prefer lists over resolutions). AND you'll be happy to know (and relieved so I stop mentioning it!) that The Bubb is walk walk walking as of this morning. We have it on video but I am fighting with blogger to get it uploaded, so hopefully soon I'll be able to share. We are beyond excited!

Wishing you a wonderful, healthy and happy 2012!
