Baby Gripper Socks

Why is it that all the cute boy socks don't have those nifty built in grippers on the bottom? The ones that we have with them are for teeny tiny baby feet, which isn't helpful. And since the weather is cooler now and The Bubb needs some grip on all our hardwood floor for standing and assisted walking, I went through his socks and came up pretty empty handed. So off I went on my quest to find some cool boy socks. And if you know me you know I like me some socks. Particularly striped knee high socks. I can't help it, I love them. Anyway I'm sure you can see where this is headed...

So I found these really awesome socks for Emmett

but they didn't have the grippers, well 1 pair out of the 6 pack did. And during my searching on Pinterest I came across this. And I knew I wanted to do this immediately.

First thing first, I went to JoAnn and bought some Tulip brand slick dimensional paint with my super nifty 50% off coupons. But they were out of white and gray so I just decided I'll do super bright colors.

Then after washing the socks, I did a test run on an old pair of his socks. (it supposed to be clouds and rain drops)

Then I moved on to the new socks and very quickly free handed some shapes onto them. It took a little bit to get used to the paint flowing out and if I had ironed the socks flat before hand that probably would have helped a ton, as the crease down the middle was kinda annoying to paint on and around.

But anyway I came up with 5 themes (since you probably can't tell what I was trying to draw I'll share): lighting bolts, tree/acorns, The Bubb, sailboats, and foot prints.

It definitely would have been easiest to just do some dots all over and it is getting much more difficult to have him pose for me, and unfortunately he is too young to be like you can have a skittle or a sticker if you let me take your picture. Yup bribing is going to be happening.

So excited that he is finally sort of possibly interested in walking, although he still doesn't want to/not interested in standing on his own, even though he can do it. Really looking forward to trying out all these socks, sorta like new sheets on the bed.

Happy Thanksgiving week and I am looking forward to making pie, pie, pie.

Baby Room Makeover

Ever since I finished decorating the family area, I've been working on redoing the Bubb's room, as we really didn't do very much to it before he was born, mostly cause we moved here the month he was born, so there wasn't a ton of time.

It isn't done yet, but the painting and furniture arrangement is finished. I just need to hang some pictures, make some pillows and do a few other fun things that I have planned.

Before:

The blue tape on the walls is when I was figuring out the stripe height I wanted. I used Frog Tape to make the stripes on the wall (you know the green masking tape). The paint is called Coastal Jetty, and I chose it in the parking lot at Lowes. Evan decided that I should just go with what I want instead of questioning myself for the next week and then coming back to this color. So back into the store we went.

Welcome to The Bubb's new room:

It took a while for us to settle on a rug for the room. Since there is no carpeting in our place, I decided that we had to have something plush for his room to play on, roll on, etc. So we got this one! And we are loving it! The Bubb seems to like it too...

I finally am able to wrestle a shirt onto him and this is what happens:

So I distract with toys

until I can get some pants and socks on him!

My First Go At Painting

I am slowly trying to decorate each room of our new place, well I guess it isn't new anymore as we've been here almost six months, and it is a slow process. I started with the family room and decided that a big piece of artwork was needed to hang over the tv to draw attention away from it.

I looked for a while to find something to hang there and came up with nothing. So I thought I could just make something. We made a family trip to Michaels with a 50% off coupon and bought a 48 x 24 inch blank canvas.

Unfortunately it didn't fit in the trunk of our car or across the back seat, thanks to the carseat. So we sidewaysed it in the front seat then tilted it to be flat up against the ceiling resting on the seat headrests, making a cave over the carseat for The Bubb. He actually seemed to find it funny. [Yes the canvas is quite large, my back up plan was that if this became a complete disaster that I would just buy fabric and cover the canvas with that instead]

I bought some paint. I think I may have a problem saying no to items arranged by color (thread, fabric, paint, paper, ribbon, etc.)

Here is The Bubb checking out my selection:

It took me a few days but I actually found it pretty fun playing with the paint. Here is the before picture:

And here it is all hung up:

In addition I also bought some cute little bins on sale at Target to put some of The Bubb stuff in and some larger ones to stash movies in. I also reconfigured the IKEA blocks at this time to make the room more open.

When I was making pillows for this room, you might recall that it looked like this:

We bought some floating shelves, as you may have guessed, at IKEA. And then I just put some pictures on them.  The pictures are actually from a while ago so I am working on changing them out with some of our more recent trips, but there are just so many things to do!

Next stop is The Bubb's room.
