Bridesmaid Dress Baby Blanket #3

Okay so maybe it is becoming 'a thing' as I got asked to make another baby blanket from a bridesmaid dress and sash. So excited about this one! The black bridesmaid dress and pink sash just lent itself perfectly to the white and black damask pattern by Riley Blake and fuchsia bubble dot minky by Shannon Fabrics.

It was so much fun pairing up the rest of the coordinating prints. I've never imagined myself as a pink, black and white girl for baby gear but I am seriously crushing on this blanket palette.

Making the blanket from the dress is pretty simple: Cut dress apart to get the maximum skirt area and then cut everything into squares. Working with the rayon/nylon/silk combo is a little more tricky but totally doable. And then just make as a normal patchwork.

The finish size is about 30x35 as I do 5 inch squares to keep everything simple in my head. The fuschia minky matched the pink sash perfectly but I really love how the pearl bracelet fabric isn't as bright but still looks so wonderful!

Okay that was probably picture overload but I just can't help myself :) Hope everyone has a wonderful week! and if interested here are the past bridesmaid dress baby blankets no. 1 and no. 2

Bridesmaid Dress Baby Blanket

A little while ago I got asked to make a baby blanket with pieces of a bridesmaid dress incorporated into it. After a discussing fabrics it was decided to use these pieces

minus the citron dumb dot in a simple square patchwork blanket. The pale lime green dress worked well with the zoology color palette and would still be bold and bright for the baby boy. Starting with the dress I got to work

and then the patchwork blanket quickly unfolded itself. Its been so long since I've had time (or a chance to actually do a patchwork) that I realized how much I love putting colors together and working on these blankets.

White minky was used on the back, I think that black made it too dark, and white is pure and simple looking and finished it off nicely.

Hope the mom and baby love it too! (and here is the other bridesmaid dress blanket that I've done now, is this becoming a thing?!)

Travel the World Patchwork

I think I might be in love. It was soooo very hard to send this off. I don't know what it is about it, the bright colors or the softness of the minky but I wanted to keep it! Which is why I thought I would share with you guys :) (there are a lot of pictures, I kinda got carried away....)

We started the whole process by matching the two Travel the World fabrics and selecting the backing

Then I cut my squares and figured out their placement. I tend to not have patterns in patchworks (does that save time having them in a repetitive order?)

Anyway I like the look of what is random but isn't, there is a slight pattern it is just hard to see :) So I finished my rows:

And then put those rows together

Put the backing on and was all finished.

I have a whole pile of fat quarters sitting around from multiple fabric collections and just haven't had time to get started, but I see them sitting there every day, looking kinda sad and neglected. I feel kinda bad for them not being used, is that strange? Probably :)

Happy Wednesday everyone!

Custom Requests

I've been seriously slacking in making anything for The Bubb or for the family lately and it is because I've had the privilege of making other babies some custom items! So I thought I would share a few pictures of what I've been up to.

The first was a large striped patchwork baby blanket/play mat that used the new fabric collection by Laurie Wisbrun called Pooches and Pickups. I love these fabrics! So great for boys :)

The other items I've been working on were a 4 paneled reversible crib bumper with the always cute Russian Dolls by Kokka, crib sheet, changing pad cover, and blanket. This order was fun to work on as it broke up my baby blanket and burp cloth making for a few days.

Since The Bubb appears to still be napping and his breakfast is already made (yeah for freezing stuff) maybe I will go get started on a few projects I have in the works for him! Happy Thursday everyone the weekend is almost here!

Patchwork Cutting

I decided to try out something new and make some patchwork blankets (quilts?). I had a bunch of left over pieces from making bicycle blankets, so I decided to give it a try. This is what I ended up with:

(and yes I am selling this in my shop). But another reason that I wanted to give this a try is that a new line of fabric called Hullabaloo (great name I know) for Moda by Urban Chicks is coming out in April and they are only selling preview fat quarter packs right now.

It is just a fun collection of fabric. So I've been doing A LOT of cutting yesterday and still this morning (there are 24 different coordinating fabrics) in order to make some patchwork blankets.

I am excited about this set because I can get a great boy blanket out of it too if I don't use fabrics with flowers in them! Happy Tuesday everyone.
