Modern Stripe Quilt

I had some fabrics stacked up the other day and thought how pleasing they looked together and it inspired me to make this stripe patchwork quilt.

I wasn't planning on doing it in color order but I just kept coming back to this arrangement so it seemed meant to be!

I quilted (top-stitched, whatever) along either side of the seams and along all the edges and I really like how it looks.

It is backed with minky of course, as we all know I love this stuff for babies :)

Anyway I hope everyone is having a good Thursday! I am eagerly awaiting the UPS guy to come with more fabric. So so so excited. Plus I love how The Bubb gets excited by the boxes/packages too even though they aren't for him. The opening is always followed with a bunch of  'ooooohs'. Such a silly boy :)

  2. Question for you...where is the best place to get the minky fabric? I know places to get it, just didn't know if you had a secret place with the best selection and best prices. Thanks!

    1. Hi! I don't have a secret place :) I buy wholesale directly from Shannon Fabrics. And you are more than welcome to buy it from me if you'd like ;) http://www.etsy.com/shop/fabricbubb

There are a bunch of online fabric shops that sell minky (hawthorne, fabricworm). Joanns sells it too, although it is definitely not from Shannon Fabrics. fabric dot com has a ton of colors too...

  3. Do you pre-wash your fabrics before you make a blanket? I've read people that do it both ways, just curious if you don't wash it how that affects shrinkage. Especially when sewing minky & 100% cotton.

    1. Yes I always prewash all my fabrics (cotton and minky). In my experience (although I've never not washed cotton) the amount that it does seem to shrink I think would create a huge problem if sewn with the minky (which doesn't shrink) before washing. If your backing is cotton and the front is cotton then it should all shrink the same in theory, although I've never tried this :)
