Glimma Quilt

So happy to share with you the Glimma Quilt that is finally finished. Love love love this new line of fabric coming out in April, so excited!! Anyway after receiving the sample pack I knew exactly what this fabric was going to be used for, and I am sorta weird about not believing that it is going to be a girl or a boy until they are born (despite what they tell you and what you see), and so I waited until my friend had her super adorable baby girl and then dived into the fabric.

I decided to just keep the squares whole, as I wanted to see the patterns and not cut them up. And to show them off I paired it with KONA Ash. I like simple baby quilts so rows of patchwork divided up seemed like a good plan to show off the different patterns.

Then on the back I used my fav, organic cotton sherpa. And then quilted (top-stitched, whatever) along the outside of the rows, as I didn't want to impede the patterns.

Thee Bubb was pretty helpful too, mixing up the squares and of course taking pictures!

Hope everyone is having a good week! It is raining here :( but luckily all the new windows got installed just as it started. Phew!

Wet Bar Update

Just wanted to share a quick update on our once wet bar room.

We started with this

and then ripped out the 'bar' cause we have a 2 year old and really, we aren't the entertaining type of lets hang out in our basement and drink, anyway. So away it went. We ripped out the carpet and then capped the plumbing in the wall. Then the HOA fixed some of the mysterious bubble patches on our wall.

As soon as the wall was fixed, we finished off the flooring :)

And then we sanded and painted. And yeah, it took 4 coats of white paint that supposedly had a primer in it! But I love the ultra bright walls down here in the basement, it makes everything so much brighter and crisper. So it is totally worth the extra effort, although if we ever repaint down here we are totally investing in a paint sprayer as those cracks are a total pain!

We are hopefully going to go and look at molding this weekend but I do keep saying that week after week. But in the meantime it means that we can move all the shipping supplies down to this room out of our family room. Our plan is to put in cabinets and a counter to make a little shipping station for our business :)

Bibs for Twins

I think that I must be going bib crazy lately, lots and lots of bibs, which is fantastic of course, I like making them. Although I am going to need to invest in a fancy snap press soon with all the hammering going on over here. Anyway, getting side tracked.

Pretty soon we are going to be having a set of twins in the family :) SO excited about this. I decided to make them some bibs. After talking with Evan we decided that the guitar fabrics by Michael Miller seemed like a perfect fit for their family and then I just added in a bunch of other bold patterns that matched.

No pastel pink or light blue here. I love doing gray and hot pink for girls, something edgy about it. And I have a crush on that new chic chevron as well. They are all of course backed with organic cotton sherpa. I just can't get enough of it!

We're getting the rest of our new windows this week, and its forcing me to hide out in the basement while all the work is getting done (we already got our new basement windows put in) so I am making some good progress on getting caught up on some sewing projects. Yeah for unexpected things :)

White Hardwood Floors

Just wanted to give everyone a sneak peak of our finished hardwood floors. We finished installing the floor a few weeks ago over the Christmas break and I cannot begin to express how excited I am about them, as they are WHITE! After we tore up the carpet, we knew that there would be a concrete slab. We thought about staining that white (or another color) for a while since I couldn't find hardwood that was naturally white, obviously. There are so many beautiful and bright pictures of Scandinavian homes that have white wood floors, most treated with some Lime process - Evan looked into the specifics and well that wasn't really a option for us. Then we thought well we could paint them white, also not an easy or practical thing to do, since there wasn't any hardwood floor there already. If it was a 100 year old home with floors already there that were kinda beat up, then yes I'd be all for painting them. But it didn't make a lot of sense to buy new wood floors and then paint them. (and of course laminate was not an option - yuck!) Anyway.

After a very very long search, I finally found white hardwood. They are actually maple and painted white by the manufacturer, and so it is long lasting and doesn't need to be repainted every year to maintain its color. It is an engineered maple hardwood, as we couldn't nail them down easily due to the concrete slab. So happy!!

Since I am quite embarrassed by the state of our current basement with our gigantic mix of boxes, fabric and furniture here are some pictures of the process and I promise to do a basement tour after everything is finished :)

Here we are laying the moisture barrier, padding and floors in my sewing room:

Emmett moved right in in typical Bubb fashion

I was getting pretty nervous of if we ordered enough wood after we got done with the 'wet bar' room to finish under the stairs but we had enough and a few pieces left over.

Now I just need to find baseboards and then move all the stuff out of the way to install them. Ideally we would have liked to have the entire floor finished before we moved in, but you know, we are only about 2 months behind schedule and well life happens :)

Hope everyone has a great week!

2013: The Year of Completion

Hope everyone had a good Christmas and New Years! It was pretty exciting to celebrate both in our new home :) although I am really looking forward to actually decorating this coming year!

A lot has happened over the course of 2012 that we are truly thankful for and there have been a lot of firsts, beginnings and projects started. That is why I am bound and determined to make 2013 the year of completion. Finishing the hundreds (what feels like thousands) of tasks that have been started and getting regrouped and energized.

Some of my goals for this year include: getting the house completed, blogging more, sewing/crafting more for me/family, selling more fabric and spending more time with my husband and kiddo.

I have received a few emails asking about the status of our home and whats been going on....well...we are still in the midst of unpacking boxes and remodeling with our major hold up being finishing the basement. We pretty much gutted it, except for walls, and are still putting it back together. Once back together (or enough) we can put all of the office/craft/sewing/extrabooks/library/etc. stuff down there and get the rest of the house and garage organized into a more livable situation. We finally got the waterproofing people to come and do their magic on our basement walls in December. We found evidence of some possible water damage upon moving in at the floor level in the wetbar and family room - a few tiny bubbles in the paint, although it was unclear how old it was - could have been from '82 when all the rain happened. So we got the HOA to do something about it, one good thing about being in an HOA I suppose. So they sent out these guys out to drill holes in the cinder block and fill them with water to see where the problem areas were (meaning where the holes were coming from the outside that caused the paint to bubble) and they found WAY more problems than we had anticipated.

You can see it from the huge spots up above - meaning if it poured rain that is where the water would eventually come through. So they filled our walls out to the exterior with this waterproofing expanding foam (why there is yellow streaks now, it oozed out) The little round dark grey spots are where they put in the nozzles to find the problem areas. Anyway after a day of working we are now water secure again. Now we just have to sand a little, prime with special primer and then continue painting. Whoo hoo.

But after the waterproofing was done, we finally managed to get the flooring complete over the Christmas holiday and are continuing to paint. Of course The Bubb didn't want to be left out helping to paint, so we gave him a leftover cabinet door. He was pretty stoked.

The office furniture is starting to go in and once we (I) pick out the baseboards that will make things feel a lot more finished. Hopefully more pictures of an update coming soon.

On a sewing front, I've been making a lot of bibs as I get caught back up on my Etsy orders

and I made my final custom order before Christmas before starting to take them again this year. (crib sheet, changing pad cover and quilt - inspired by this and this)

Anyway happy new year to everyone. Here is to a great 2013!
