These are Emmett's favorite books. We read them ALL the time. He has been stuck on this group for the past month or so. And he does vary month to month, week to week, but it has been pretty consistent as of late. Not that I mind.
So this is what we are reading right now: Otis, Go Dog Go, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, Bear Snores On, My First Tractor Book, Trucks, The Foot Book, The Going to Bed Book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Trucks (yes there are 2 truck books), and Trains.
Once he gets you cornered in his room or on the couch he will bring them all over to you and just keep handing them to you until we've read through them all then we have to start all over again. Sometimes we get stuck on Otis, as there is this one page in it with a firetruck and he will just stare at it for like 10 minutes babbling to himself.
But I love that he is so into his books. He'll walk around with them or just pull one of the shelf and be content for 10-15 minutes. It is so nice...not just from a hey my kid loves to read, but also, yeah! I have 15 minutes, what can I do? Brush my teeth, comb my hair? eat something perhaps?
I am interested to know what are your kid's favorites? We are always on the lookout for new books to try out!
Those are some great choices! It gives me some new ideas for my 22-month-old. He is really into the large Elmo "I Can Do It" book, any of the colorful board books by Roger Priddy, the Baby Bundt series, and anything by Leslie Patricelli. We are trying to slowly get him into paper books, but he's still a bit rough on the pages.
ReplyDeleteAlso, a side note... I have been following your blog for awhile now and really enjoy it. I happened to be picking up my 3YO from preschool yesterday and saw my friend with her brand new baby. She had an awesome bicycle print "Sir Bubbadoo" blanket draped over his baby carrier. She said she found you on Etsy and LOVES your fabrics! As do I. :)
Keep up the great work!

Thanks for the suggestions! and how cool is that!! My husband keeps telling me that we or someone we know will see something that I've made, but I just didn't think that would ever happen. How fun! Totally made my afternoon :)
DeleteJacob LOVES Chicka Chicka Boom Boom as well! His other favorite is "Roadwork" by Sally Sutton- he likes to repeat all the "noises" the machines make. It's so much fun when they become interested in books! Do you have the Dolly Parton Imagination Library in your area? It's an online source but they go through a local library. You can go to the website and sign your child up and they will send you a free age appropriate book every month until they are 5!
ReplyDeleteHey girl! I awarded your blog an award. Go check it out! http://mommyforreals.blogspot.com/2012/02/liebster-award.html
ReplyDeleteBear Snores On - One of my favorite board books to read. The kids especially enjoy a vigorous interpretation of the sneeze... :)
ReplyDeleteEmergency! (On the Go!) by Margaret Mayo, also Dig Dig Digging (On the Go!) and Choo Choo Clickety-Clack! by the same lady - my now 3.5 year old sons favourites when he was younger. We live in the UK, but hopefully you can get them in the US!

Beautiful cushions to lounge on and books - the perfect pre-sleep habit that we love in our family! Our son runs up to his room for it every night. Its good to start young I reckon!
Hope that helps!
We have a lot of these too! We also love We're Going On A Bear Hunt, anything from Mo Willems (specifically the Pigeon series and Knuffle Bunny series), Duck & Goose series, and then later maybe when he's 3--the books by Oliver Jeffers (Lost & Found, The Way Back Home, The Incredible Book Eating Boy...)
ReplyDeleteThanks guys for all the suggestions!! Will definitely check them out!
