IKEA Strikes Again

The other day when I was on my way through IKEA I found these pots that I HAD to put Emmett in for some pictures.

And then I returned them, as we don't have space for them on our tiny balcony.  But while Evan was waiting in the return line, the Bubb and I found this drawer/cart thing to put all my sewing stuff in (cause apparently it isn't appreciated all over the kitchen table, not that we ever eat there anyway...)

All finished.  We left off the second to bottom drawer so that there would be a place to store fabric. And now I am able to store my thread in an orderly fashion.

New Chairs...Well Almost

Tired of the old blue chairs in the kitchen, with their paint stains, food stains, and well dirt, I thought a change was in order. I had been looking for fabric to reupholster them for a while, and finally found fabric that I liked at Stonemountain & Daughter Fabrics.  To do this project I used about 1.5 yards of fabric, a staple gun, and screwdriver.

The chairs after.  And I must say I am super excited about the fabric and how they turned out (and the other great thing is that it only took me 2 naps to accomplish this! I love my sleep baby)

One of my least favorite sights: A pile of newly washed fabric, just out of the dryer, waiting to be ironed.

Onesie Shirts

It is hard to believe that the Bubb will be 6 weeks old tomorrow.  He is growing so fast! And because of this he has a hard time fitting into his newborn clothes and some 3 month because he is too long for them. I decided to take these 5 onesies and change them into shirts cause he still fits into them otherwise, well at least for a couple of weeks!

As you can see I did hems for the green and red ones, but Emmett was going to wake up from his nap and I didn't have enough time to hem the others so I just left them zigzagged and I think that they look better, cause you can't see my crooked lines.  I have learned while making these, that I need to take time when I am pressing hems so that they are straight and even, so that when I guide the hems through it makes a straight and even line. Go figure!  As I side note I wonder that if one was to serge or zigzag the edges of new fabric before they wash them, then they wouldn't fray, and you wouldn't have to spend tons of time untangling and cutting those stray threads before ironing. But maybe everyone knows this already and I am just slow at figuring this out!

Pumpkining

We took advantage of the wonderful fall weather last Friday and decided to head to the pumpkin patch for the Bubb's first pumpkin experience.  We had seen a new place on a previous trip to Half Moon Bay, so we decided to give it a try this time.  It is way more kid friendly than the previous places we had gone (i.e. super discounted pumpkins).  But this place had chickens, "scary" displays, tractors to sit on, and very large display pumpkins to take pictures in front of. The only odd thing was that all their pumpkins were lined up so closely together you couldn't wander through them, but had to pick from the outside or send a resourceful husband assistant in to the middle.  Cause of course all the best pumpkins are in the middle...

In case you were wondering about the hat he is wearing.  I made my first attempt at making a hat AND using knits. And let me tell you that knits are not yet my friend. I have much to learn.  But anyway...I cut out the hat shape, sewed right sides together, while sandwiching the "stem" in the middle of the top.  And then hand sewed the "leaf" on to it.  As a side note, while going about this, I have discovered that the Bubb's head is the size of a 9-12 month old.  It is HUGE.  16 inches. (and most likely growing as I type this)

 
Because of his large head, it makes it difficult to find a bear hat on etsy...either knitted or crocheted like the one below, as the hats come in newborn or 0-3 months or 3-6 months and all are too small for his head!! And I guess they assume older babies won't wear these hats, and I really wanted to get one that is a little big for him, so he can wear it for a couple of months at least.  So I might have to look into custom ordering one OR I could learn to knit or crochet but I don't know about that.
